Synthetic Happy Ending

Everyone's story deserves a happy ending.  But when it looks like that it's just not in the cards, sometimes you just have to pull one from thin air.

All's well that ends well.  And above all, no matter how fictional, end it well.

Charlie Brown Syndrome

The nation's elites, from politicians to leaders of business and finance, have been caught playing fast and loose with the rules.  More serious than smoking in the gym and calling the English teacher "Daddio," they've tarnished our national reputation, run up our bills, robbed our savings, and stalled our economy. Now that it's time to take them to task, they've all come down with Charlie Brown Syndrome, crying, "why is everybody always picking on me!?"  While we contemplate how to punish these scoundrels for their misdeeds, let's enjoy a little music, wait for our piece of the stimulus package, and watch the chickens come home to roost.

Inevitable Eternal

A different sound, a change of style. Sooner or later, it happens to everyone. Sound collage, experimental melodies, classic songs made over, and some tinkering with the sublime sonics of the master of ambient drone, John Pemble.  DJDeedle uses some of Pemble's sublime sonics as the canvas on which to paint other melodies and mysterious, but beautiful, sounds.

Can't get enough of John Pemble, check out his site and buy his sonics at Johnpemble.com.

Can't get enough of Deedle mashing John Pemble's sonics, check out Deedle's John Pemble mash, Out of Time v. Intimate Softness.

Coordinated Universal Time

As you listen to this week's Deedlecast, DJDeedle is very likely making the long journey across time zones from Eastern to Hawaiian.  With the start of daylight saving time last week, and all these time zones to consider this week, telling time is getting a bit confusing.  It doesn't matter what time it is or what time zone you happen to be in, because this week everyone is on Coordinated Universal Time.

Discipline

Next Friday, DJDeedle leaves for two weeks in Kauai.  But before then, there is much to do, work to be done, Deedlecasts to to be polished and posted.  Such a busy period requires a little self-imposed discipline.  This week DJDeedle subjects you to a strict regimen to keep you focused, on task, and above all things, busy.  DJDeedle demands determination and results.  Come correct and get wise to this track.  Step to it, yo!

Shocking Monkey Business (Single)

What do Peter Gabriel, Human League, Don Ho, Timo Maas, and the Monkees have in common?  Ordinarily nothing.  DJDeedle couldn't let Charles Darwin's 200th birthday pass without a linvolving all those artists in some shocking monkey business.

Happy belated birthday, Charles.  We owe you for your brilliant theory that makes all modern biology possible, and for all the shockingly fun monkey business it has caused.

Slumdoghouse

Though DJDeedle isn't one to glom on to movies just because they win awards, for some weeks since the movie's release, he's been captivated by the music from Slumdog Millionaire, this year's Oscar winner for Best Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song.

This week, DJDeedle takes liberties with the movie's score as well as the sounds of the subcontinent, from Bhangra to Bollywood.

Downloading

Computers, the internet, and digital technology have altered forever the relationship between musical artists and their fans and listeners.  Digital artists, particularly bootleggers, have altered this relationship further using computers to rework classics and forgotten favorites, weaving them into the unique 21st Century sound, not quite old, and not entirely new.

The "download," the essential ethereal link between you and DJDeedle, is the last step in the creative process.  Without the magic of the download, Deedlecast would not be possible.  This week's Deedlecast salutes the efficient and effective system by which you get your weekly dose of the 21st Century sound.

"Downloading" marks the third anniversary of DJDeedle's podcasts. For 156 weeks now, DJDeedle has brought you the freshest sounds around, indulging his passion for mashup, remix, sound collage, and electronic esoterica. The some 6,240 minutes of thus far of Deedlecast have been a joy to fashion and provide, and DJDeedle looks forward to many many more.  So, once again, this week, as with that week in February 2006 and every week since, face the music with DJDeedle.

A few rude words in this download.

AudiObama

Today is George Washington's birthday, and yesterday was Abraham Lincoln's.  On Monday, because everyone likes a Monday off, we honor the births of these two American presidents who saved the nation from threats to its very existence.  Today, though, DJDeedle honors our new president, Barack Obama, who singlehandedly changed to tempo of the nation at this critical time.  For the next four years, maybe eight, we dance to the beat of DJ Obama.

Although DJDeedle finally settled on the title, "AudiObama," several worthy titles were suggested:  "ObamAudio," "Barack Me Amadeus," and "Barackman Turner Overdrive."

Martial Artistic

This week, kung fu fighting gets more than a little exciting.  One hit wonders, Carl Douglas and Vivian Hawke's somewhat culturally insensitive 1974 classic finds new life in the 21st Century, a skip into a brand new trip.

Neon Sound

DJDeedle takes element number 10, neon,
and turns it into pure sound.  Like the luminous noble gas itself, neon
music is sometimes smooth, sometimes rough, sometimes soothing, and
sometimes harsh; but, DJDeedle promises to spare you that horrible
flickering buzz that comes from failing neon signs.

Illharmonic

Join DJDeedle for the illest symphony.  Some old maestros meet the voices and rhythms of today.  Hemiola meets hip-hop.  A little Bach, a little Beethoven, a lot of unexpected and surprising sounds and voices - DJDeedle's Illharmonic orchestra.

A word of warning: Some words in this Deedlecast might fog your opera glasses.

Just a warning: on while on Planet X you may experience high energy particles and a couple of rude words.

Anybody's Guess

With all the things 2008 threw at us, what 2009 has in store for
us is anybody's guess. One thing is for certain though: DJDeedle will
continue to bring you the mixes and mashes you've come to expect, and

X-mas Frame of Mind

Even if your are like DJDeedle, and find the holiday season somewhat vexing, this time of year has its own magic, totally apart from any religious nonsense.  DJDeedle hopes this little twisted carol puts you in the right frame of mind to enjoy the season in your own way.

If you just can't get enough of DJDeedle's holiday magic, check out these ghosts of Deedlecasts past.

Loving New York

There are as many ways to love New York as there are things to
love about New York.  One of the things DJDeedle loves about New York
is its sound.  In the same way the city's diverse inhabitants mix and
mingle in to make New York one of the most extraordinary places on
Earth, the diverse sounds and musical styles of the city, from the
refined and classic to the gritty and cutting edge, come together into
something compelling and fresh.

Just how do you love New York?

Warning:  New York style language throughout this Deedlecast.

Crystalize

crys·tal·ize (krst-lz)

1. To coalesce into an extremely hard, ordered repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions.

2. To make clear and more comprehensible, and to take on a definite meaning.

DJDeedle liberally applies the Crystal Method to create a hard, ordered repeating pattern extending in all auditory dimensions.

This Deedlecast contains a couple of clearly rude words.

Musicogenic Seizures

Musicogenic epilepsy is a form of reflex or affective epilepsy, and involves autonomic, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional reactions to selected musical stimuli.  The associated musicogenic seizures are generally believed to be caused by the juxtaposition of musical sounds and frequencies that are incomprehensible to the human brain, or that evoke emotional reactions shocking to the psyche.

Sound frightening?  It's just the normal state of things on Deedlecast, and this week's Deedlecast is designed to get all your synapses firing:  This is your brain on music.  If you happen to be prone to such seizures, please refrain from enjoying Deedlecast while driving or operating heavy machinery.

Also, if a rude word or two flips your switch, be warned there are a few in this show.
