Music to Watch People By

Inspired by countless trips on Washington, DC's underground transport system, the "Metro," this Deedlecast attempts to capture the comical and frenetic quality of both the system and its patrons. Just put on your mp-3 player, sit back, relax, and watch the people (and your wallet, purse, and other valuables). Like the people on the Metro, this podcast is quite the variety, and you never know what's coming next.

A word of advice for our visitors in our fair city for the National Cherry Blossom Festival (March 29 - April 13, 2008): please be kind enough to let people exit the train before trying to enter, and remember to stand on the right and walk on the left of the escalators. Also, no eating, drinking or loud music either!

Breathe (Deedle's Respiratory Redirection)

Here's a little rearrangement/reinterpretation of Télépopmusik's "Breathe." The radio/album edit was used in a 2002 commercial for the Mitsubishi Outlander. I'm not sure if anyone bought the car because of the wonderful song, but I'm sure Télépopmusik sold a lot of albums because of the commercial.

This rearrangements contains extesive elements of another of Télépopmusik's songs from their Genetic World album, "Love Can Damage Your Head," a Deedle favorite some of you may remember from the February 16, 2007 episode of Deedlecast, Ambience Chasers.

Who's Bad?

This thing of being a good little goodie is all very well,
What can you do when you're loaded with plenty of hell?!

This Deedlecast is filled with the worst of the bad: thieves, deadbeat dads, dirty old men, heartbreakers, pimps, Michael Jackson, of course, and not a few rock stars.

Be warned, though, as we all know - Bad boys use rude words!

Dream On (Deedle's Plenary Dub)

To round out your full dose of Depeche Mode, DJDeedle presents his remix of "Dream On."

For those of you who still haven't had your fill of Depeche Mode for the week, check out "Everything Counts" - Deedle's Housecleaning, Part 1

Policy of Truthiness

1 : "truth that comes from the gut, not books" (Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," October 2005)
2 : "the quality of preferring concepts or facts one wishes to be true, rather than concepts or facts known to be true" (American Dialect Society, January 2006)

With the country gripped in the throes of the presidential primaries, DJDeedle decided that if we can't inject a little truth into the discourse, we can at least have a policy of truthiness. DJDeedle has been a fan of our boys the Depeche Mode for decades, and has been meaning to do a Deedlecast dedicated entirely to D-Mode.

Because this Deedlecast is a little shorter in length that usual, I'll post an additional DJDeedle original Depeche Mode remix, "Dream On (Deedle's Plenary Dub)" at the same time to give you the full dose of the Mode.

Rebound Sound

A life lived to its fullest inevitably means the occasional broken heart. The immediate aftermath, the rebound, is guaranteed to be a touchy and quixotic period. DJDeedle brings you the unique sound of the rebound.

Wrong Side of Hollywood

DJDeedle welcomes you to the wrong side of Hollywood. A neighborhood of murders, where even the roaches spit out paperclips. And outside every porchway there is a small dish of food that is eaten by morning, we presume by a cat. It is the whorehouse district of Los Angeles, which is right off of Hollywood Boulevard and Western. An action spot.

Global Warming

Though it's cold in DC right now, the globe is warming. In this Deedlecast, some like it hot, some find the heat of summer cruel, a few may even find their roof is on fire, some may even take their clothes off.

One interesting anecdote about this Deedlecast is that it features an original DJDeedle mashup of a song by Kofi B, a popular highlife musician from Ghana. DJDeedle had the good fortune to hear Kofi B on a friendly New York cab driver's cd player. Your dj, ever searching for the best music for Deedlecast, learned everything he could about Kofi B and his music in the time it took to get from Penn Station uptown to Columbia University. Because music is a universal language, this friendly cab driver and DJDeedle chatted like old friends.

If you happen to be tuning in, friendly NY cab driver, thanks for exposing me to Kofi B, and please let me know if what I've done to his tunes amuses.

Pan-Sonic Incident

It's time to slow down, relax, take off all the harsh edges. DJDeedle presents a Pan-Sonic Incident, capturing the rich, warm sound not often present in the age of digital jazz and hip-hop.

Although DJDeedle hasn't bought into this theory yet: for decades, audiophiles have believed that any sound piped through an amplifier using fragile, short-lived vacuum tubes becomes silkier and richer, even digital sound, and sound in compressed formats like mp-3. Your humble DJ would be interested in hearing from any Deedlecast listener who happens to use a vacuum tube-based amplifier to listen to today's offering.

Here We Go

Very likely by the time you are reading this, the long suffering one and I will be well on our way to our annual pilgrimage to Kauai.

No need to worry, though. Your superstar DJ has stocked up on Deedlecasts; and you can count on your weekly episodes even while DJDeedle basks on the beach.

What We've Got for You

What's this funny music on Deedlecast? Shaking things up a bit, a rock show is what we've got for you. A rock n' roll Deedlecast? It may smell a little funny for a Deedlecast, but a little rock and metal is nice for a change.

Note: This rock show may have a couple of foul smelling words in it.

When the day's over and city's asleep and quiescent, DJDeedle finds his muse. Most people count sheep when they can't sleep. DJDeedle counts beats and measures.

This week's creation of Deedle insomnia is designed to remind you why we were all sleepless in the 80s.

Constructive Criticism

We all benefit from a little constructive criticism from time-to-time. Everyone has their own opinions and ideas about music, so believe me when I tell you DJDeedle gets plenty of criticism, constructive and otherwise. This week, Queen Latifah speaks her mind.

Note: Some of these critics use some harsh words. If I can take it, I'm sure you can too.

At Deedlecast studios, we've had our holiday jollies, and we're back once again with our ill behavior. This first true Deedlecast of 2008 should set your year off on the right tempo.

Ill behavior warning: This Deedlecast contains a rude word or two.
