Warp Factor
Just in time for New Year's Eve, DJDeedle's tinkered with time, dabbled with dimensions, and fiddled with the fundamental laws of the universe to produce for you a truly warped Deedlecast. With 2010 fading away, and 2011 dawning, time is of the essence. So DJDeedle's twisted the past, present, and future, weaving it into something unexpected, and of course, warped.

Time Released
The holiday season is a time to relax, a time to reflect on the year, and consider our prospects for the next phase. This week, as a special holiday gift, DJDeedle brings you 50% more Deedlecast, a full hour of the chillest sound you've ever heard. DJDeedle blends the ambient sounds of John Pemble, with the triphop and electrojazz sounds of Kruder & Dorfmeister, and the dulcet tones of Faithless (Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo). A dear friend once told me that he found Kruder & Dorfmeister hypnotic and addictive, like a narcotic. Mixing K&D with Pemble and Faithless creates an experience that will have you floating, not flying, and entranced, not addicted.
Swallow the pill, sit back, relax, and let time and trouble melt away.
Don't worry, the first hit is free.

The Glitch That Stole X-mas
The holiday season is upon us again, and with all the pressures and excitement, things can't always go as smoothly as we'd planned. Don't let a glitch here and there put a hitch in your holiday festivity. DJDeedle works a few of the glitches into this year's special Deedlecast, creating a distinctly holiday sound with a distinctly different effect. This holiday season, don't let the glitches get you down, put them to work for you.

Asia Bureau
Ancient yet modern, inviting yet forbidding, well studied yet mysterious, our planet's largest continent is a a tapestry of contrasts and contradictions, sewn together with hidden harmonies and unexpected ideas. This week, a report from Deedlecast's Asia Bureau provides a glimpse of where where the sweeping Asian epic has been and where it is going.

Viral
Just in time for cold and flu season, DJDeedle's gone viral. Unlike those nasty bugs, you'll want to catch this virus, particularly because the infectious beat of Alexander Fog's "H1N1" gets caught up in DJDeedle's music masher versus Mint Royale's "Sexiest Man In Jamaica;" then, like any good virus, returns again later as a new strain with other virulently catchy and irresistible sounds.
Remember to get a flu shot. But this week's Deedlecast is a phage you won't want to miss.

The Pop Cycle
Like art, music has cycles, particularly pop music. No matter what era a pop tune belongs, it comes around again and again, reborn, reworked or just ripped off and recycled. The secret of pop art is taking cliché, iconic, or obvious subjects and transforming them into something new, vibrant, and relevant. This week, DJDeedle applies the pop art method to pop music, taking some of those tired and overworked sounds from the pop cycle, and giving them new meaning.

Man vs. Machine
In our increasingly computerized and automated world, we humans may find ourselves wondering about our role: are we the masters of our technology? Have smarter, faster machines bested us, and made us obsolete; or worse yet - made us slaves to our very inventions.
This week, @DJDeedle explores this tension between man and his technology. Is it really true that machines merely do the work, while people can think? Are there things that man can do that machines will never match? Or will man's ingenuity get the best of him?

The 3rd Kind
If it exists, alien life is most likely, well, very alien. That means that it is probably very different than life as we know it here on Earth. This week, Earthly and unearthly sounds meet, harmonize, and peacefully co-exist, creating a new musical genome.

STS-∞
The space shuttle, that icon of American space ingenuity, is scheduled to serve its final mission early next year. Known officially as the Space Transportation System (STS), the missions have been more or less sequentially numbered from the first launch on April 12, 1981.
Though the final shuttle mission has not been set in stone, NASA's latest suggests it will be STS-134.
Date: Feb, 2011 *
Mission: STS-134
Launch Vehicle: Space Shuttle Endeavour
Launch Site: Kennedy Space Center - Launch Pad 39A
Launch Time: To Be Determined
STS-134 Description: Space shuttle Endeavour will deliver an EXPRESS Logistics Carrier-3 (ELC-3) and an Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) to the International Space Station.
DJDeedle remembers vividly that first launch and successful landing, as well as the two tragic shuttle accidents. This week's Deedlecast is a salute to the era of the space shuttle and all the brave folks on those missions. The STS program may be ending soon, but the missions will continue forever in our hearts.

Space Race
September is all about space on Deedlecast this year. DJDeedle starts off this month-long space odyssey by saluting the space race, that golden age of manned space exploration when the US and the USSR competed to outdo each other and be the first to land a human on the moon. The adventure continued in the 1970s with further Apollo mission lunar landings, the rendezvous with the USSR's Soyuz, and ultimately, Skylab from 1973 to 1979.
Here's to those brave days of manned space flight and exploration, humankind's destiny.

Great and Powerful Oz
The classic film, "The Wizard of Oz," premiered in New York on August 17, 71 years ago. In celebration of the anniversary the Wizard himself has turned the machinery of Oz over to DJDeedle. The people of Oz know how to party, and the sounds they like to move to have come a long way since 1939, no Lollipop Guild here. This week, the man behind the curtain is DJDeedle.

Culture Clash
The collision of cultures is not always a destructive thing. Sometimes the tension created by mingling multiple mindsets can be constructive, even artistic. This week, cultures collide, sparks fly. Dis connected
Occasionally, delays, deferrals and glitchy technology can leave us all feeling a bit dis connected. Disconnection isn’t such a bad thing, though. Spell Rhythm
The Speak & Spell was introduced at the summer Consumer Electonics Show in June of 1978. Created by a small team of engineers at Texas Instruments, the Speak & Spell's speech technology was groundbreaking in that it introduced artificial speech technology to the mass market, albeit in an educational toy.
This week, DJDeedle weaves in some of that 32 year old speech technology to test, not your spelling, but your innate sense of rhythm.

This week, DJDeedle salutes the electric guitar, the axe, the tool Jimmi Hendrix, the Beatles, Slash, Jimmy Page, Prince, Johnny Ramone, and a multitude of other notables used to carve out the unforgettable riffs and sounds of the rock era.
This week, the guitar greats grind their axes DJDeedle style.

DiscoTech
Rumors of the demise of disco are greatly exaggerated. Disco never died, it just went high tech. It's disco time on Deedlecast. But, as you might expect, not your old fashioned disco sound. DJDeedle's breathed new life into the disco sound using 21st Century technological magic.

Portishead 2010
The unmistakable sound of Portishead returns to Deedlecast this week. You'll recognize the pops, scratches, and stutters created by keyboardist/multi-istrumentalist, Geoff Barrow, that create the perfect glitchcore frame for Beth Gibbons' lyrical, haunting voice. But the Portishead of 2010 has been given a harder edge, a gritty makeover.

Off the Record
In the 1980s, the days of the record album were eclipsed by the cassette tape, with a new kind of hiss, fast forward, and rewind. The age of the boom box dawned, and soon we were almost entirely off the record.
This week DJDeedle, through digital means, pulls some of those sounds previously trapped in desultory analog off the record and off the tape, bringing them together, minus the hiss, with sounds of a new era. Love it or hate it. Say what you want about 80s music, it's all off the record.

MTV Generation
DJDeedle remembers fondly that day back in the 80s when video killed
the radio star. Music videos were something new and amazing, and MTV
arrived on the scene to provide them to us on cable. But not for
everyone. One had to beg the local cable company to carry MTV.
To be truly part of the MTV generation, one has to remember the
excitement when MTV dawned, and VJs ruled the television, serving us
hour after hour of brit pop, synth pop, new wave, rock, and even some
mainstream rap (and ultimately some hip-hop). New artists, like
Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Bryan Adams, and Thomas Dolby arrived on our
screens, daily. And groups like Yaz, U2, Duran Duran, Wham, the Cure,
the Smiths, and the Police echoed from every school dance, prom, and
boom box.
This week, DJDeedle salutes his generation, the MTV generation.
We're responsible for all those one-hit wonders from the 80s we now
hear in elevators and waiting rooms everywhere.

Computer Menace
Sometimes computers can be a menace, simultaneously taking over the
world while at the same time teetering precariously and threatening to
crash and take our civilization and all our hard work down with them.
Last week, we worked out the glitches. This week we deal directly with
the computer threat itself.

Glitch
Even the smoothest running system can encounter a glitch or two. In
digital music, bit rate reduction, digital distortion, hardware noise,
computer bugs, crashes and system errors can ruin an otherwise flawless
musical composition or performance, and be the source of endless agony
and frustration. But sometimes, used in the right way, glitches can
work a kind of magic on an otherwise mundane sound.
What is interesting about the glitch aesthetic is that it is hard to
tell sometimes what sounds are "erroneously" produced, and which are
intentional.
This week's Deedlecast is presented in its unedited entirety,
glitches and all, and hopefully better for it.

Black Hole
There is an inexorable force in the cosmos, that begins where everything ends.
We have never sent them directly, yet we know they are there, lurking win dark star clusters. Or wandering the dustlands of the galaxies, where they prey on stars or swallow planets whole. Our Milkyway may harbor millions of these massive black holes, the ultra-dense remnants of dead stars.
There's evidence of something even more ominous. A breed of black holes that have reached incomprehensible size and destructive power. Supermassive black holes. They are out there, roaming the cosmos, eating planets and stars. Cross the event horizon with DJDeedle and experience the true singularity.
Remember, in space, no one can hear you scream.

Mission Impossible
When
DJDeedle was a kid, he watched endless hours of the old television
series Mission Impossible. This week DJDeedle tries to capture the cool
modern jazz feel of the classic Mission Impossible television series,
and the action-packed, fast-paced feel of the movie version of the
Mission Impossible franchise.
A word of caution: some rude words in this Deedlecast - PG-13.
