"Everything Counts" - Deedle's Housecleaning, Part 1
Deedle's doing some year-end house cleaning. Over the next several days, DJDeedle will be posting some special single edits -- little mixes and things that didn't quite fit into Deedlecasts (yet).
Full length Deedlecasts will still be posted every Friday!
In honor of the the gift-giving season, here's DJDeedle's mix of Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts (in large amounts)."

Road Trippy
Many loyal Deedlecast listeners will be hitting the road this holiday week. DJDeedle finds that on roadtrips . . . time . . . goes . . . by . . . so . . . slowly. This Deedlecast is designed to take some of the tedium out of your trip to Funkytown, or really any town where you may be traveling this season.
Listen and drive carefully.

Posture is Everything
This week, that Olympic darling of the 1980's, Mary Lou Retton, reminds us that good posture is its own reward. Every song in this Deedlecast should get you moving with perfect posture.
Warning: this Deedlecast contains a few non-Mary Lou-approved words.

Holly Jolly Syndicate
The holidays are just around the corner. But, let's face facts. As Lucy Van Pelt informed us so many years ago, the holidays are a big commercial racket, and everyone knows they are run by a big eastern syndicate.
Both holiday cynics and holiday fans will find something to love about this Holly Jolly Deedlecast. DJDeedle has posted this episode a little early in the month so you may enjoy it the entire holiday season.
For those of you who just can't get enough holiday cheer, try last year's holiday Deedlecast:

We Are Not Alone
November of 1968 marked the release to the public of the final report of the "Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects," called the "Condon Report" after the project's director, Dr. Edward U. Condon.
Condon had been ordered by the Air Force to conduct a survey of UFO reports to determine once and for all the merit of the phenomenon. In short, the study concluded that UFOs represented only misidentification and hoaxes.
DJDeedle, with some help from his friends, both extraterrestrial and terrestrial, updates the data and conclusions of this historic report.

A Club Too Hip for Me
You know that chic and ultra-exclusive club with the red carpet, the velvet rope, and the line running around the corner comprised of fashionistas and drunk stars ?
This week, there's absolutely no need to primp, pose and risk rejection just as you get to the front of the line. DJDeedle peers inside the club far too hip to let him in.
As you might expect at such a place: 21 and up with ID.

Don't worry. This is no typical techno; trust your dj, it's good for you.

Good Sport
From marching and pep bands, to the lofty notes of the Olympic anthem and commercial sound of televised sports, music has always had a place in sports. Though DJDeedle couldn't name a single football, basketball, baseball, hockey, or soccer player, whether professional or amateur, he devotes this week's Deedlecast to the unmistakable sound and music of sport.

Deja-Vou
Did you ever have the feeling you knew what someone was going to say before they said it?
Ever felt like you've heard that song before?
Maybe you have. But not like this.

Universal Anthem
An "anthem" is usually a rousing popular song that typifies or is identified with a particular subculture, movement, or point of view. These anthems are merely intended to bring you to your feet.
Note: There are a couple of rude words in this Deedlecast.

Kiss FM
It seems that every town in America at one time had a Kiss FM. And in the days before ipods and satellite radio, no matter what city your Kiss FM was in, it had a Saturday night party broadcast for those too young, too shy, or too boring to leave the house. The broadcast was a mix of pop cheese and tunes you could dance to.
This week's show is a salute to those broadcasts, but with a little update and DJDeedle's touch.

Cartoonish
With all the kids now back in school, DJDeedle decided they deserved a short break from their academic rigor. Your dj has vivid memories of coming home from elementary school, and watching cartoons in the afternoon with the younger brother. So, DJDeedle presents "Cartoonish," a collection of cartoony-tunes and cartoon-inspired riffs.
Note: This Deedlecast, unlike most of the others, is Rated G, and suitable for children of all ages. Parents, please monitor the volume on your child's mp-3 player. Oh, and everyone, please don't forget to brush your teeth.

Forgotten Dubs
They say memory is the first thing to go. DJDeedle has probably forgotten more dubs than he ever actually knew. This week's Deedlecast presents just a few of these forgotten gems, including one of the first mashups he ever made: (bjork v. Enigma v. Moby v. countless others).
DJDeedle hopes these dubs won't soon be forgotten.
n'oubliez pas: this Deedlecast has a rude word in it

Hooked on Stereophonics
Stereophonic sound: it seems commonplace today, but there is much more to it than meets the ear. This week DJDeedle explores stereophonic sound, and promises that if you pay close attention you too will be hooked on stereophonics.

Extreme Music Makeover
Just scan the television channels today, and it seems endless hours of television time are spent on making over peoples' homes, cars, images, faces, bodies, food, you name it.
DjDeedle thinks that music, both old and new, needs a makeover of its own.
This makeover is hosted by the incomparable (and deceased) James Brown.

Get Down in a Hurry
Notice: This Deedlecast may chill out suddenly and without warning. This is entirely normal, and there is no need to adjust your equipment.
Further Notice: There are a couple of rude words in this podcast. But perhaps you'll be so chill, you won't notice them.
Even Further Notice: Deedlecast marked its 10,000th download today.

Saved by Don Quichotte
Because I had a couple of requests, I'm posting this DJDeedle original as a single. It's a mashup of "Saved by Zero" by the Fixx and the very obscure classic from the 80's, "Don Quichotte" by Magazine 60. Let me tell you, it was no easy feat finding "Don Quichotte." It was wildly popular in El Paso, TX in the mid 1980's when Deedle was a a mere teenaged music fan, and got extensive airplay before evaporating into obscurity.

Music As It Is
In anticipation of the travel many of you will be doing this holiday week, DJDeedle brings you music, not as it is, but as it should be. Now, as you listen to this week's Deedlecast, you may be wondering where DJDeedle is taking you, and if he's made an incorrect turn somewhere. Not to worry. Keep you mind on your driving and your eyes on the road ahead. Deedle won't steer you wrong.

Music for Murder
It is thought by some that murder rates increase during the spring and summer months as a result of the effect increased temperatures have on our tempers. DJDeedle suspects that it isn't just the heat that makes us homicidally angry, but insufficiently fun music.
Consider this week's Deedlecast the antidote for your summertime homicidal rage.

Love or Money
"For the Love of Money" Artwork by tangledweb
Love and money. We can't live without either; but chasing them can lead to a lot of misery.
Don't forget that DJDeedle chases neither love nor money tonight, but art, poetry, and literature at the SpeakeasyDC CD Launch Party tonight at Local 16.

Reagan Mixed and Remixed
The 80's live again on Deedlecast, thanks to the folks at Born Again 80's. The kind folks at Born Again 80's are a fantastic resource for extended mixes and unique remixes of your favorite 80's tunes, and have become a regular stop for DJDeedle's musical research.
DJDeedle reminds you that, though "popping" collars on your polo shirt, and stacking polos were both popular in the 1980's, so were Ronald Reagan, star wars defense systems, trickle-down economics, and soaring deficits -- all bad ideas in retrospect.
DJDeedle kindly requests that you save the polo stacking, collar popping, pant leg pegging, and Reagan worship for 80s theme parties.
More of DJDeedle's thoughts on the evils of collar popping can be found at:

Beatles' Message
This week DJDeedle uncovers the hidden message of the Beatles. Those of you who are Beatles fans and who think they already know the band's message may be surprised to learn what DJDeedle has discovered.
Celebrity Endorsement:

Portishead
Sometimes haunting, sometimes eerie, sometimes lyrically beautiful, the sound of Portishead is instantly recognizable, even when mixed and mashed. Keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow and singer Beth Gibbons combine the high-tech, the low tech, and the classic to make Portishead's unique sound. Though these tunes have been mashed up and remixed in various ways, they are still very much Portishead.

DJDeedle Workout
Body Smith, located at 1622 14th Street NW in Washington, DC's Logan Circle, is like a second home to DJDeedle (some might say like a second mortgage as well). The experts in physical fitness, training, and nutrition at Body Smith have for seven plus years now kept your dj lifting, jumping, climbing, crunching, curling, pressing, etc., all at the same time keeping him safe, balanced, and free from injury. Most importantly, though, his expert friends at Body Smith have given him consistent and salutary results.
DJDeedle is honored to announce that Body Smith will now be offering ipods filled with Deedlecasts and other music selected by DJDeedle for clients to check out while they run, bike, or otherwise exercise.
Please stop by the Body Smith website and check out the training options, boxing and yoga classes, as well as the nutrition and massage services. Or stop by the gym in Logan Circle for a tour. Tell them you're a friend of the DJ!

Travel by Tardis
Plumbing the depths or heights of dorkiness, depending on how one looks at it, DJDeedle has indulged the geeky sci-fi facet of his personality by creating this week's tribute to the world's favorite time traveling adventurer.
For the next 27 minutes and 15 seconds of Earth time, you too can travel by TARDIS. Not unlike the Tardis, this Deedlecast is larger on the inside than it looks.
